Abstract: Describes analysis of atmospheric components of 2503-m (320 kyr) deep ice core from Dome Fuji, Antarctica using wet extraction technique. Provides detailed description of air extraction and analysis of CO₂ concentration. Describes results for CO₂ concentration in firn air and their use in estimating age difference between ice and air at close-off depth. Calculates past ice-air age differences (1000-5000 years) using firn densification model. Compares CO₂ concentrations in Dome Fuji core with those from other Antarctic cores and compares CO₂ variations with those in δ¹⁸. Finds change in carbon cycle parallels temperature change in some periods and lags it in others, e.g., at end of interglacials.
