Record #166710:

Physical properties of the Dome Fuji deep ice core / Takeo Hondoh, and 19 others.

Title: Physical properties of the Dome Fuji deep ice core / Takeo Hondoh, and 19 others.
Author(s): Hondoh, Takeo.
Date: 2003.
In: National Institute of Polar Research. Memoirs. Special Issue. (2003.), Vol. 57 (2003)
Abstract: Presents principal results of various physical analyses of 2503-m deep ice core from Dome Fuji, Antarctica. Analyses include stratigraphy, bulk density by volumetric and x-ray transmission methods, total gas content, permeability and bubble volume, distribution of air bubbles and clathrate hydrates, Raman spectral N₂/O₂ ratios of air-bubbles and clathrate hydrates, ice fabrics, ice grain size, laser scattering tomography and AC-electrical conductivity, mechanical tests, and crystalline structures of ice and clathrate hydrate. Stresses novel techniques such as automatic fabric analysis, AC-electrical conductivity and dual wavelength ice radar. Reviews microphysical processes affecting ice core records to better understand paleoclimatic and palaeoenvironmental signals. In: Global Scale Climate and Environment Study through Polar Deep Ice Cores: Proceedings of the International Symposium on the Dome Fuji Ice Core and Related Topics, 27-28 February 2001, Tokyo.
