| Abstract: | Presents analysis of annual layer thickness in 2503 m Dome Fuji deep ice core based on fluctuations in number densities of air bubbles and air hydrates. Describes stratigraphy and measurement of number densities used to determine layer thicknesses. Observes clear fluctuation of air bubble density and finds good agreement with layer thicknesses calculated using Dansgaard-Johnsen model. Exception is period of last (Eemian) interglacial, which is not addressed. Suggests air bubble and hydrate analyses may contribute to core dating where chemical or isotopic signals are destroyed by molecular diffusion.
