| Abstract: | Analyses official observer data on bycatch of fur seals, great albatrosses, mollymawks, petrels and other seabirds during longline fishing operations in New Zealand waters, and assesses effect of factors that may influence bycatch rates. Discusses likely levels for coefficient of variation of bycatch estimates as function of total effort in fishery, in terms of number of hooks used and level of cover by official observers. |
