Abstract: | Describes visit of Christian IV and its consequences for recruitment, then varying alliances of 19th Cent. and Russian-Finnish threat. Main part concerns different stages of WW2 in Finnmark, when ratio of Norwegians to Germans was only 2:1. Evacuation under Russian attack accompanied scorched earth policy, affecting all buildings, boats and bridges. Returning soldiers from Britain did not at first understand scale of occupation and its "collaboration". National Service was set up on thorough basis, with refreshers up to age 44.
