| Abstract: | Describes development of 'Permafrost of the Usa River Basin' Geographical Information System and discusses new information on region's geocryological conditions. Aims to map dynamic stages of permafrost conditions that occur in particular areas for specific and relatively short periods of time (decades), taking into account factors such as geology and hydrology. Describes geological setting in northeast European Russia, sources of ground temperature data, meteorological records and borehole temperature data, and database organisation. Presents selected 21- to 27- year records showing 0.6°C to 1.2°C warming. Sites with similar climatic parameters frequently differ in ground temperatures by 2°C or 3°C because of geological or hydrological factors. |
