Record #166512:

Evaluation of remote sensing techniques for ice-area classification applied to the tropical Quelccaya Ice Cap, Peru / Todd H. Albert.

Title: Evaluation of remote sensing techniques for ice-area classification applied to the tropical Quelccaya Ice Cap, Peru / Todd H. Albert.
Author(s): Albert, Todd H.
Date: 2002.
In: Polar Geography. (2002.), Vol. 26(3) (2002)
Abstract: Investigates methods for determining glacier extent from satellite imagery, evaluating several techniques to delineate ice cover through application to the tropical Quelccaya Ice Cap, Peru. Applies each technique to a previously geometrically and radiometrically corrected single image. Evaluates results in terms of accuracy and human operator time required. Recommends three methods for future use with Landsat imagery. Finds band-ratio technique most cost-effective for determining ice-covered area and supervised spectral angle mapper algorithm most accurate.
