Record #166508:

Icelandic climate and glacier fluctuations through the termination of the 'Little Ice Age' / Martin P. Kirkbride.

Title: Icelandic climate and glacier fluctuations through the termination of the 'Little Ice Age' / Martin P. Kirkbride.
Author(s): Kirkbride, Martin P.
Date: 2002.
In: Polar Geography. (2002.), Vol. 26(2) (2002)
Abstract: Seeks links between glacier fluctuations in Iceland, summer and winter climate, and atmospheric circulation over North Atlantic Ocean. Aims to contribute to fuller understanding of causes of glacier variation and inform paleoclimatic inferences based on evidence of past glacier advances. Examines time-series of twentieth century length changes on six glaciers and post-1850 records of temperature, precipitation and North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) pressure gradient index. Finds shifts in location and intensity of Icelandic Low associated with regional glacier retreat and subsequent readvance, but detailed relationships complicated.
