Record #166503:

Giant glacial grooves detected on Landsat ETM + satellite imagery / C.R. Stokes, C.D. Clark.

Title: Giant glacial grooves detected on Landsat ETM + satellite imagery / C.R. Stokes, C.D. Clark.
Author(s): Stokes, C. R.
Clark, C. D.
Date: 2003.
In: International Journal of Remote Sensing. (2003.), Vol. 24(5) (2003)
Abstract: Reports evidence of giant glacial grooves in area centred on Dubawnt Lake, Nunavut Territory, Canada, in Keewatin Sector of former Laurentide Ice Sheet. Discusses genesis of glacial grooves in what is taken to be the bed of a paleo-ice stream. Departs from view of ridge (rather than groove) formation through point initiated sedimentation and speculates on groove formation through ploughing of keels in base of ice sheet through soft sediment. Discusses keel formation through flow over bedrock upstream and plausibility of keel survival long enough to create grooves.
