| Abstract: | Describes Sept. 2001 campaign on Marmolada Glacier (Dolomites, Italy) to collect samples of ice, snow and surface waters. Geochemical study of Marmolada system focuses on reaction between ice, melting water and carbonatic rock and evaluates human impact. Integrates results of chemical analyses with morphological analysis of glacier and related proglacial area. Finds evidence of strong chemical interaction between meltwaters and limestone bedrock and very high level of anthropogenic pollutants such as nitrate, nitrite and chloride related to winter and summer sport activities. |
