Dynamic of processes and geomorphs associated to the retreat of Glacier O'Higgins, Southern Patagonia Icefield, Chile / Rudolfo J. Iturraspe, Jorge A. Strelin.
Title: | Dynamic of processes and geomorphs associated to the retreat of Glacier O'Higgins, Southern Patagonia Icefield, Chile / Rudolfo J. Iturraspe, Jorge A. Strelin. |
Author(s): | Iturraspe, Rudolfo J. Strelin, Jorge A. |
Date: | 2002. |
Language: | Spanish. |
In: | Instituto de la Patagonia. Anales. Serie Ciencias Naturales. (2002.), Vol. 30 (2002) |
Abstract: | Documents retreat and thinning over last 100 years of O'Higgins Glacier. Reports active degradation processes such as deflation, mass wasting, denudation and dune generation, and partial drainage of Perdido lake, damned by GAEA Glacier. Explains these, identifying six zones of differing geomorphological conditions. Concludes anthropic impacts such as overgrazing and shrub burning are enhancing general desertification process and degradation of 'the singular beauty of this landscape'. |
