| Abstract: | Assesses status of southern right whales around New Zealand, based on review of 110 sightings and 23 photo-identifications collected between 1976 and 2002. Lack of evidence of movement between New Zealand waters and sub-Antarctic islands and marked difference in recovery rates between two areas suggest that two populations represent separate stocks. |
