| Abstract: | Describes distribution of total organic carbon and nutrient salts in surface waters of Antarctic Circumpolar Current in autumn, based on samples collected in April and May 1991 in Indian Ocean sector. Surface concentrations of nutrient salts increase towards South, with highest values in stations close to Iles Crozet and Kerguelen. No linear relationship was found between nutrient concentrations and salinity, due to lack of winter mixing during sampling period. Total organic carbon distribution differed from tendencies observed for salinity, temperature and nutrient salts, as rich carbon areas were mixed with poorer ones, probably due to different levels of biological activity occurring in frontal zone. |
