Observations of surge periodicity in East Greenland using molybdenum records from marine sediment cores / John Woodward, Steve Carver, Helmar Kunzendorf, Ole Bennike.
Title: | Observations of surge periodicity in East Greenland using molybdenum records from marine sediment cores / John Woodward, Steve Carver, Helmar Kunzendorf, Ole Bennike. |
Author(s): | Woodward, John. Carver, Steve. Kunzendorf, Helmar. Bennike, Ole. |
Date: | 2002. |
Publisher: | London: Geological Society |
In: | Glacier-influenced sedimentation on high-latitude continental margins. (2002.), |
Abstract: | Seeks to explain Molybdenum record in sediment core recovered from Noret Inlet, King Oscars Fjord, East Greenland. Describes core collection, sampling and dating. Notes peaks in Mo record at ca. 495 years (Little Ice Age) and ca. 95 years BP, superimposed on long-term increase from ca. 495 years. Mo mineralization absent from drainage basin of Noret Inlet but present in that of Mesters Vig Inlet to south. Notes evidence of surge advance of Östre Gletscher at head of Mesters Vig Inlet just prior to 1905 and suggests that Mo peaks arise from pulse of sediment-laden water discharged at surge termination. |
Notes: | In: Glacier-influenced sedimentation on high-latitude continental margins / J.A. Dowdeswell, Colm Ó Cofaigh, eds. |
