Record #165818:

Grain-size characteristics and provenance of ice-proximal glacial marine sediments / John T. Andrews, Sarah M. Principato.

Title: Grain-size characteristics and provenance of ice-proximal glacial marine sediments / John T. Andrews, Sarah M. Principato.
Author(s): Andrews, John T.
Principato, Sarah M.
Date: 2002.
Publisher: London: Geological Society
In: Glacier-influenced sedimentation on high-latitude continental margins. (2002.),
Abstract: Links interests of glacial marine sedimentologists to those of deep-sea palaeoceanographers using specific sand-size fractions as indicators of iceberg rafting. Argues that differences in grain-size spectra of ice transported sediments can be interpreted in terms of provenance and depositional process. Uses three grain-size analysis methods, with examples from Labrador Sea, East Greenland, North Iceland and Ross Sea, Antarctica. Addresses: (1) characteristic grain-size distribution of glacial marine sediments; (2) grain-size spectra of matrix of glacial and glacial marine sediments; (3) whether grain-size spectra can be used to distinguish different glacial sources; and (4) differences between glacial marine sediments deposited on continental margins and those deposited in adjacent deep sea basins.
