Abstract: Documents geomorphic features and sediments deposited beneath a previously expanded West Antarctic Ice Sheet along glacial trough. Examines these for insight into conditions at base of former ice stream. Describes swath bathymetry, high-resolution chirp-sonar, and side-scan sonar datasets and sedimentological analyses of cores collected along trough axis and adjacent banks. Interprets subglacial processes associated with deposits and attempts to determine which part of glacial cycle preserved features represent. Identifies series of zones from inner to outer shelf of progressively faster ice flow and lower basal shear stress. Finds some evidence for thin deforming till layer in transition zone. Corrugation moraines, marking annual pauses in margin retreat suggest consistent retreat rate across Ross Sea floor, negating collapse scenarios.
