Abstract: Assesses importance of short-term glacial and oceanographic processes in creating glacimarine strata. Describes use of radioisotope (²³⁴Th, 24 day half-life) geochronometer for documenting strata production over seasonal time-scales. Describes boundary conditions for measuring rates of strata production under both steady and non-steady sediment deposition. Analyses three cores from Icy Bay, Alaska. Demonstrates three methods of developing appropriate age-depth transformations. Uses time series techniques to qualitatively relate sedimentary structures observed in core X-ray radiographs to oceanographic and glacial processes. At deep-water site 4 km from terminus of tidewater Guyot Glacier, finds sedimentation controlled by seasonal meltwater cyclicity modified by tidal processes and precipitation-augmented meltwater release.
