Publisher: London: Geological Society
In: Glacier-influenced sedimentation on high-latitude continental margins. (2002.),
Abstract: Evaluates overall context for Cenozoic strata in western Ross Sea, based on drilling data, and reviews key evidence bearing on climatic evolution. Reviews drilling programs and describes geological setting. Focuses on late Oligocene-early Miocene interval, comparing results from drill sites in two different geomorphological settings with respect to termini of major outlet glaciers from East Antarctic Ice Sheet. Describes facies analysis and characteristic associations, interpreting them in light of equivalent modern glacimarine environments. Finds evidence of climate transitional between cool-temperate early Oligocene and cold-polar Quaternary, resembling that of today's high-Arctic.
