Late Quaternary architecture of trough-mouth fans: debris flows and suspended sediments on the Norwegian margin / J. Taylor, J.A. Dowdeswell, N.H. Kenyon, Colm Ó Cofaigh.

Title: Late Quaternary architecture of trough-mouth fans: debris flows and suspended sediments on the Norwegian margin / J. Taylor, J.A. Dowdeswell, N.H. Kenyon, Colm Ó Cofaigh.
Author(s): Taylor, J.
Dowdeswell, J. A.
Kenyon, N. H.
Ó Cofaigh, Colm.
Date: 2002.
Publisher: London: Geological Society
In: Glacier-influenced sedimentation on high-latitude continental margins. (2002.),
Abstract: Provides contextual view of glacigenic debris flows (GDFs) from detailed geophysical mapping of two largest trough-mouth fans in Polar North Atlantic, the Bear Island and North Sea fans. Study based on extensive geophysical dataset of long-range side-scan sonar (GLORIA) and shallow seismic lines. Describes geological setting and database, flow location and fan morphology. Discusses geophysical character of flows and non-GDF sedimentation on glacier-influenced fans. Develops new model for late Quaternary depositional environment across fans. Concludes GDF emplacement on fans probably a relatively low frequency event, occurring roughly every 2000 years, and that fan architecture consists of interacting mixture of debris flow and suspension-derived glacimarine sediments.
