Record #165744:

Signature and timing of the Kattegat Ice Stream: onset of the Last Glacial Maximum sequence at the southwestern margin of the Scandinavian Ice Sheet / Michael Houmark-Nielsen.

Title: Signature and timing of the Kattegat Ice Stream: onset of the Last Glacial Maximum sequence at the southwestern margin of the Scandinavian Ice Sheet / Michael Houmark-Nielsen.
Author(s): Houmark-Nielsen, Michael.
Date: 2003.
In: Boreas. (2003.), Vol. 32(1) (2003)
Abstract: Presents evidence that Norwegian advance of Last Glacial Maximum in northern Denmark and southwestern Sweden involved an ice stream. Links this Kattegat Ice Stream to Middle and Late Weichselian glacier dynamics of southern Scandinavia. Identifies deposits of Norwegian advances in northern Denmark from dispersal of Oslo indicator erratics and describes their distribution, stratigraphy and chronology. Argues that on several occasions glaciers crossed Norwegian Channel in eastern Skagerrak Sea without being diverted westward by ice masses from central Sweden. Argues youngest advance, which deposited Kattegat till 30-25 ka BP, involved an ice stream, with fan-shaped flow pattern extending beyond surrounding ice and deformable substrate. In special issue Palaeo-ice streams.
