Laurentide and Cordilleran fast ice flow: some sedimentological evidence from Wisconsinan subglacial till and its substrate / Olav B. Lian, Stephen R. Hicock, Aleksis Dreimanis.

Title: Laurentide and Cordilleran fast ice flow: some sedimentological evidence from Wisconsinan subglacial till and its substrate / Olav B. Lian, Stephen R. Hicock, Aleksis Dreimanis.

Date: 2003.
In: Boreas. (2003.), Vol. 32(1) (2003)
Abstract: Seeks relationship between geometry and stability of ancient ice sheets and palaeoclimate record. Focuses on how data from sediments, stone fabrics and glaciotectonic structures can provide information about subglacial thermal conditions and ice dynamics. Uses simple hypotheses that ice moving over ductilely deforming bed of unconsolidated sediment experiences rapid extending flow and ice moving over a rigid bed experiences compressive flow. Summarizes Canadian evidence of fast ice flow and defines till types discussed. Reviews case studies from Lake Ontario and Lake Erie basins and Jesmond Valley in the Cordillera. Summarizes sedimentological criteria for recognizing glacially deformed till and deformation till associated with former ductile deformation and fast ice flow. In special issue Palaeo-ice streams.
