| Abstract: | Presents geological evidence for past existence of Norwegian Channel Ice Stream, focusing on: (1) Jaeren area in southwestern Norway; (2) Norwegian Channel, stretching from Skagerrak along coast of southern Norway, off Jaeren, to continental margin; and (3) continental margin, including North Sea Fan. Reviews knowledge of ice stream and presents selected stratigraphic, seismic, sonar and geomorphological evidence. Provides tentative ice stream outline, flow regime and longitudinal profile. Addresses key questions regarding ice stream's impact. Discusses stability on different timescales and evidence for meltwater drainage and freshwater delivery from ice-stream system to ocean. In special issue Palaeo-ice streams. |
