Record #165722:

Sea-level fluctuations during the last glacial cycle / M. Siddall, and 6 others.

Title: Sea-level fluctuations during the last glacial cycle / M. Siddall, and 6 others.
Author(s): Siddall, M.
Date: 2003.
In: Nature. (2003.), Vol. 423(6942) (2003)
Abstract: Analyses oxygen isotope records from Red Sea sediment cores to reconstruct history of water residence times in Red Sea. Uses hydraulic model of water exchange between Red Sea and world ocean to reconstruct global sea level over past 470 kyr. Extreme sensitivity of narrow and shallow Red Sea to sea-level change allows reconstruction accurate to within ± 12 m, with centennial-scale resolution from 70-25 kyr BP. Finds sea-level changes up to 35 m, at rates up to 2 cm yr⁻¹, coincident with abrupt changes in climate. Corroborates signal similarity between Antarctic temperature history and sea-level record. Compares with other sea level proxy records.
