Mass balance of the cryosphere / Jonathan L. Bamber, Antony J. Payne, eds.

Title: Mass balance of the cryosphere / Jonathan L. Bamber, Antony J. Payne, eds.
Author(s): Bamber, Jonathan L.,
Payne, Antony J.,
Date: 2003.
Publisher: Cambridge: Cambridge University Press
Abstract: Comprehensive review of theory behind measuring and modelling mass balance of cryosphere (omitting seasonal snow cover, permafrost, etc.), and results from latest observations and model simulations. Twenty-three contributors to seventeen chapters cover sea ice, glaciers and ice sheets. Part I deals with theory and practice of measuring mass balance, part II with modelling. Parts III-V present current knowledge, from both measurements and modelling, about current and predicted behaviour of sea ice, glaciers, ice sheets and ice caps. Introduction presents importance of cryosphere, discusses time scales and sets geographical context. Book arose out of meeting at 2002 annual congress of European Geophysical Society.
