Antarctic krill and the structure of planktonic community in its distribution area. 2nd edition (expanded) / Ernest Z. Samyshev ; translated by O.V. Klimentova.

Title: Antarctic krill and the structure of planktonic community in its distribution area. 2nd edition (expanded) / Ernest Z. Samyshev ; translated by O.V. Klimentova.
Author(s): Samyshev, Ernest Z.
Klimentova, O. V.,
Date: 1991, 2002.
Publisher: Moskva: Nauka
Abstract: Discusses major structural and functional characteristics of Euphausia superba Dana and other components of planktonic community, based on results of long-term surveys and monitoring in Commonwealth Sea and adjacent waters off Antarctica from 1973-1986. Assesses interannual variations in biomass and abundance in relation to underlying mechanisms such as intensity of meridional water transfer, solar activity, and complex structure and circulation of seawater. Includes distribution of krill eggs, larvae and adults; estimates of energy fluxes in ecosystem of Antarctic planktonic community; decomposition and assimilation of primary production generated by phytoplankton in upper 100-200 m of seawater; and trophic structure of Antarctic zooplankton in relation to production-destruction processes in pelagic Southern Ocean.
