Record #165172:

An iceberg in the Alps / Anon.

Title: An iceberg in the Alps / Anon.
Date: 1892.
In: Royal Geographical Society. Proceedings. (1892.), New series 14(7) (1892)
Abstract: Glacial phenomenon only once previously known in Alps. Following retreat of Gallrut glacier, lake formed at its foot, bounded by end moraine strengthened by rock falls from Tristkopf, water eventually extending under glacier until lake almost covered. Lack of ground moraine and poor water supply in summer 1890 led to glacier overhanging lake before breaking off and falling into lake, bursting through embankment and down valley, 7 August 1890.
