On the best and safest route by which to attain a high northern latitude / John Rae.
Title: | On the best and safest route by which to attain a high northern latitude / John Rae. |
Author(s): | Rae, John. |
Date: | 1885. |
In: | Royal Geographical Society. Proceedings. (1885.), New series 7(11) (1885) |
Abstract: | Advocates use of one or two sealing or whaling steamers to force way through pack ice from the north-west of Spitsbergen towards Franz Josef Land, a coal depot having been left in North Spitsbergen. Contends that southern drift of ice that obstructed Parry in 1827 should not hinder more powerful ships, but if ice-bound could drift southwards in the pack. Part of the Proceedings of the Geographical Section of the British Association, Aberdeen meeting, 1885. |
Notes: | Royal Geographical Society. Proceedings. New series 7(11) :760-761 (1885). |
