Oxygen isotopic and soluble ionic composition of a shallow firn core, Inilchek glacier, central Tien Shan / Karl J. Kreutz, Vladimir B. Aizen, L. DeWayne Cecil, Cameron P. Wake.
Title: | Oxygen isotopic and soluble ionic composition of a shallow firn core, Inilchek glacier, central Tien Shan / Karl J. Kreutz, Vladimir B. Aizen, L. DeWayne Cecil, Cameron P. Wake. |

Date: | 2001. |
In: | Journal of Glaciology. (2001.), Vol. 47(159) (2001) |
Abstract: | Presents δ¹⁸O and soluble-ionic records from snow-pit and shallow firn core samples recovered during July-August 1998. Describes sampling and analysis. Site, at 5100 m a.s.l. in accumulation zone, chosen to avoid melting of the snowpack. Single observed melt feature does not prevent unambiguous reconstruction of climate variability. No temperature trend during 1992-98 indicated by δ¹⁸O record. Dust deposition, with significant annual variability, dominates water-soluble chemistry. Speculates that summer NH₄⁺ records reflect regional agricultural activity and the use of nitrogen-rich fertilizers. |
