Abstract: Aims to resolve questions involving the origin, transport and deposition of the impurities in Antarctic snow by improving understanding of spatial distribution of chemical species. Presents chemical data from a 20 m high-altitude firn core obtained on Amundsenisen during SWEDARP 1991/92. Briefly describes core transport, sampling, analysis and dating. Core covers period 1865-1991. Presents ion records (sea salts, sulphate, methanesulphonic acid (MSA) and non-sea-salt calcium) in detail. None shows any trend over the period 1865-1991. Observes a gradual increase in Cl/Na ratio during late 1950s and a significant rise around 1980, suggesting atmospheric HCl content has changed. MSA concentrations show substantial increase with ENSO years.
