Record #164646:

Post-stagnation behavior in the upstream regions of Ice Stream C, West Antarctica / S.F. Price, R.A. Bindschadler, C.L. Hulbe, I.R. Joughin.

Title: Post-stagnation behavior in the upstream regions of Ice Stream C, West Antarctica / S.F. Price, R.A. Bindschadler, C.L. Hulbe, I.R. Joughin.
Author(s): Price, S. F.

Date: 2001.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (2001.), Vol. 47(157) (2001)
Abstract: Presents two sets of observations and analysis; one from the region upstream of stagnant trunk of Ice Stream C and one concerning the interaction between Ice Streams C and B. Re- examines 'water piracy' hypothesis used to explain stagnation of Ice Stream C some 150 years ago. Examines how kinematic waves in upstream regions of Ice Stream C propagate ice thickening associated with stagnation. Contends that present day topography is the result, rather than cause of, stagnation, and that water piracy did not cause stagnation. Discusses flow features visible in SAR and visible imagery. Concludes that if upper regions of Ice Stream C continue to thicken and Ice Stream B continues to thin, then more ice will be diverted from the former to the latter.
