Abstract: Glacier Chacaltaya is a rare example of long-term documentation in Central Andes. Study aimed at reconstructing area and volume changes since Little Ice Age as representative of those of small glaciers of the Bolivian Cordilleras. Motivated by need to anticipate glacier evolution and related water resources. Presents mass-balance records and topographic surveys for 1990s and area estimates from 1860. Considers hydrological impact of glacier changes and presents scenario for future. At present shrinkage rate glacier would disappear within 10-15 years.
