Abstract: | Presents results of simultaneous monitoring of deformation rates (using tilt sensors) and pore-water pressure variations in basal till layer, together with borehole water pressure. Finds till deformation dominates basal motion and reports rates of strain an order magnitude higher in till above surge front than those in till below it. Provides estimates of till viscosity, hydraulic diffusivity and hydraulic conductivity. Finds neither viscous nor plastic models of till rheology adequate to fit observations. |
