Title: | Correspondence. A reason for resin / Michael D. Gerasimoff, Cameron P. Wake. |
Author(s): | Gerasimoff, Michael D. Wake, Cameron P. |
Date: | 2001. |
In: | Journal of Glaciology. (2001.), Vol. 47(156) (2001) |
Abstract: | Addresses problem of hoar-frost build-up as augers are lowered into non-fluid-filled boreholes. Found that adhesion was tight to high-carbon steel cutters, but not to adjacent anodised aluminium. Describes a treatment with thin layer of quick-setting epoxy resin to reduce problem. Proposes mechanism for build-up and identifies conditions most likely to produce it. |
