Title: Correspondence. A reason for resin / Michael D. Gerasimoff, Cameron P. Wake.
Author(s): Gerasimoff, Michael D.
Wake, Cameron P.
Date: 2001.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (2001.), Vol. 47(156) (2001)
Abstract: Addresses problem of hoar-frost build-up as augers are lowered into non-fluid-filled boreholes. Found that adhesion was tight to high-carbon steel cutters, but not to adjacent anodised aluminium. Describes a treatment with thin layer of quick-setting epoxy resin to reduce problem. Proposes mechanism for build-up and identifies conditions most likely to produce it.
