Record #164620:

Ephemeral grounding as a signal of ice-shelf change / Marjorie Schmeltz, Eric Rignot, Douglas R. MacAyeal.

Title: Ephemeral grounding as a signal of ice-shelf change / Marjorie Schmeltz, Eric Rignot, Douglas R. MacAyeal.
Author(s): Schmeltz, Marjorie.
Rignot, Eric.
MacAyeal, Douglas R.
Date: 2001.
In: Journal of Glaciology. (2001.), Vol. 47(156) (2001)
Abstract: Uses differential interferometric SAR to identify areas of ephemeral grounding on ice shelves adjacent to Rutford Ice Stream and Pine Island and Thwaites Glaciers. Models effect of intermittently grounded areas on large scale ice flow using ice-shelf flow numerical model with a linear basal sliding relation. Effects generally small. Concludes that observation of ephemeral grounding may be most useful in identifying subtle changes in ice shelf thickness.
