Abstract: | "The real people" of western Arctic Canada around Mackenzie River delta lived by hunting and fishing until American whalers arrived in 1890s, when they suffered common woes of disease and cultural dislocation. In last 50 years they have rebounded, with major land restitution in 1984. Book illustrates their history, with photos, art, traditional stories and personal reminiscences. |
