Record #164320:

Tiderne skifter - Gerti Nooter (1930-1998) i Østgrønland / Cunera Buijs.

Title: Tiderne skifter - Gerti Nooter (1930-1998) i Østgrønland / Cunera Buijs.
Translated title: The times change - Gerti Nooter (1930-1998) in East Greenland.
Author(s): Buijs, Cunera.
Date: 2002.
Language: Danish.
In: Grønland. (2002.), Vol. 50(5) (2002)
Abstract: Describes many long visits paid by Gerrit ("Gerti" in Greenlandic) Nooter, wife and sons to East Greenland and their complete involvement in life there. Research into way of life and its tools led to important collection for Leiden Museum, under principle of never taking something that would not be replaced locally by similar object. Anthropological concepts of Improvisation, Renewal and Change are discussed and applied to East Greenlanders' methods, tools and materials. Case in point is use of crashed helicopter as source of aluminium for harpoon tips. Role of Great Hunter and equivalent in other spheres is very significant in society without traditional hierarchy - Danish importations being irrelevant.
