Knud Rasmussen og Nobelprisen / Aage Jørgensen.
Title: | Knud Rasmussen og Nobelprisen / Aage Jørgensen. |
Translated title: | Knud Rasmussen and the Nobel Prize. |
Author(s): | Jørgensen, Aage. |
Date: | 2002. |
Language: | Danish. |
In: | Grønland. (2002.), Vol. 50(5) (2002) |
Abstract: | Rasmussen was put forward in 1929 by Prof Thalbitzer on behalf of Konglige Danske Videnskabernes Selskab, because of his great work in collecting and translating Inuit myths and legends. Objections were raised on three grounds: 1) it was not his own composition, 2) contents were not deep, searching myths of international significance, and 3) language was not particularly creative. In terms of Nobel prize regulations and precedents, none of these objections could be irrefutably sustained, and article explains why. But he did not get prize. |
