Abstract: Towards end of 19th Cent. many Saami settled more or less permanently in Jämtland County, having, for various reasons, given up reindeer. Government foresaw difficulties, and in 1920s leased land from State to them. State research ceased in 1950s, and much changed, with most immigrants returning to reindeer herding. Jåma was herself from settlement, and describes also nomad school and chapel's history.
