Author(s): Saether, Arne-Terje.
Eldjarn, Gunnar.
Date: 2002.
Language: Norwegian.
In: Ottar. (2002.), Vol. 2 (2002)
Abstract: "Old Henry is going, He's going a-rowing, He's no more time for spooning or wooing." (Arvid Hansen, loosely). Henrik went to Bear Island "to forget it all". In fact, speed was less important than safety, except in Lofotfishery. Heroic feats of rowing against or without wind are described. Authors tried to measure seaworthiness, or rowworthiness of Nordland boat, with great reputation for rowability, over different distances and of different sizes. Results were compared with optimum under Froude's law of hydrodynamics.
