| Abstract: | Boat is fine example of how culture arises as result of man's successes in mastering nature, in this case in fjords and along coast. Revival of Nordland boat is not so much nostalgia as recognition of refinement of design over hundreds of years, resulting in vessel light to row, moving fast. It outlasted other Norwegian craft, but was overtaken by motor boats with nets or lines after WW2. KYSTEN Society and DNT have now set up coastal routes imitating latter's mountain trails. |
