Abstract: Revised edition of Skrifter 80 (1942) and 112 (1958), including their introductory chapters, with original bibliographies and indices. 16,647 names, of which 8,013 are currently approved. Main principles for setting names are still: priority, euphony, brevity and appropriateness. New ones should be descriptive and unique. Russian names use international transcriptions. This is not a history book, but names reflect history of places. Celebrates 75 years since Institute was founded as Svalbard and Arctic Ocean Research.
