Record #163657:

Ice caves of Terra Nova Bay (Victoria Land, Antarctica) / Mirco Meneghel, Giovanni Badino.

Title: Ice caves of Terra Nova Bay (Victoria Land, Antarctica) / Mirco Meneghel, Giovanni Badino.
Author(s): Meneghel, Mirco.
Badino, Giovanni.
Date: 2002.
Abstract: As part of Italian Programme of Research in Antarctica (PNRA), three caves were explored at snout of glaciers reaching to sea and one on summit of Mt Melbourne volcanic cone near Italian station of Terra Nova Bay, northern Victoria Land. Coastal caves are crevasses moulded and enlarged due to temperature difference between glacier ice and warmer seawater. Cave on Mt Melbourne is generated through heat from volcanic rocks.
