Record #163647:

Moulins and marginal contact caves in the Gornergletscher, Switzerland / Leonardo Piccini, Alessio Romeo, Giovanni Badino.

Title: Moulins and marginal contact caves in the Gornergletscher, Switzerland / Leonardo Piccini, Alessio Romeo, Giovanni Badino.
Author(s): Piccini, Leonardo.
Romeo, Alessio.
Badino, Giovanni.
Date: 2002.
Abstract: Over 40 englacial caves and some marginal tunnels have been investigated since 1985 in Gornergletscher, Swiss Alps, finding two main types of moulin, one with vertical pattern, other showing gently dipping development with small shaft at entrance. Some of first group have been explored to water table of -30 to -140 m, water level partly controlling rate of development and shape. Suggests that there are more moulins in last 15 years and they are lasting longer. Studies continue.
