Abstract: Examines politics of nationality in Taymyr. Describes fieldwork in 1993 among Evenki reindeer herders which is then related to wider framework of Inner Asia. Argues that over idealised and rationalised category of "hunter" among urban planners has created social situation where young people have to abandon hunting in order to attend land and its animals.
