Abstract: | Describes effect on World Heritage project of Vega as example of current philosophy of "place" in anthropology. Emelius Steinsholmen of Hysvaer Islands typifies former hardy islanders, who once traded in eider down and fed on seal, bird and fish, supplemented by produce of a few cattle. Aim is to present Vega's case to UNESCO in 2004, using 5 aspects of geology, setting and human use. Eider duck represent "preservation through use". |
