Record #163452:

Translated title: Customs and "tradition" in the Coast Saami community - an example from Spildra.
Author(s): Bjørklund, Ivar.
Date: 2003.
Language: Norwegian.
In: Tromsø Museums Skrifter. (2003.), XXX (2003)
Abstract: Community has been almost invisible since late Middle Ages, as anthropologists have not been able to decide whether Coast Saami are stationary fisher-farmers or mobile hunting siida, because of distinction between summer and winter abodes. Gjessing was clearest about this. Developments and changes on Spildra island, part of Ottar's home territory, are described. Finneodel and finnerydning were administration's codfied rights of Sea Saami. Market economy used settled fishermen from start of 19th Cent. This questions idea of "tradition" in describing way of life.
