Abstract: Compares results from Himalayan glacier with four Patagonian outlet glaciers, discovering three species of insect and one copepod in Himalayan glacier ice, five species of insects in Patagonian icefields, all adapted to glacier environment and completing their life cycles there. Algal layers in ice core from Yala Glacier in Himalayas distinguished annual layers and would be useful for ice-core dating, and so past changes in climate.
