Abstract: Examines advantages and disadvantages of conventional environmental management systems in light of need to improve environmental performance pursuant to environmentally sustainable development. Describes enhanced environmental management system which addresses basic problem of changing organisations from current unsustainable state to sustainable state. Presents results of trials at Casey station, Antarctica, from 1999-2000 and compares with Davis and Mawson stations.
