Abstract: Soil displacement, temperature, depth of thaw plane and groundwater level were continuously monitered during July 1999 to June 2000. Displacements were result of gelifluction in thaw period. Ice profile showed that gelifluction occurred at same time as thaw plane reached layers with high ice content at shallow depths (0-6 and 16-25 cm), but not at 46-49 cm depth. Thus thawing ice lenses near surface trigger gelifluction.
