Vegetation as a tool in the characterisation of geomorphological forms and processes: an example from the Abisko mountains / Anna Kozłowska, Zofia Rączowska.

Title: Vegetation as a tool in the characterisation of geomorphological forms and processes: an example from the Abisko mountains / Anna Kozłowska, Zofia Rączowska.
Author(s): Kozłowska, Anna.
Rączowska, Zofia.
Date: 2002.
In: Geografiska Annaler. Series A. Physical Geography. (2002.), Vol. 84 A(3-4) (2002)
Abstract: Examines extent to which repeatable links can be identified between landforms and features of vegetation as preliminary step. 60 representative sites were studied in 3 areas in alpine belt on both calcareous and crystalline substrates. Features characterising abiotic environment and vegetation were defined, using "Scandinavian school" typology. Linkes were investigated between vegetation and geomorphological processes (deflation, frost sorting, solifluction and nivation) and landforms (thufurs, solifluction lobes, sorted stripes and nival niches). Clear association was noted, though difficulties remained in describing links, but they were representable schematically.
